What’s the difference between a British and European mattress?
You’re in those post-summer holiday blues, and everything seems a little grey. The weather’s not as nice, you’re not on a beach; and even your bed doesn’t seem the same! This isn’t just your holiday nostalgia talking- it turns out that there really is a differences between English mattresses and European mattresses, with those from the continent being made to larger dimensions than their English counterparts.
The good news is, The Odd Company can help bring that holiday feeling of extra space home. We include European mattress sizes as part of our standard range, letting you enjoy European dimensions in the comfort of your own bedroom. The subtle sizing differences between English and European mattresses have been collated here in this guide from The Odd Company.
European mattresses vs British mattresses: What’s the difference?
As the table below shows, European mattresses tend to have an edge over British mattresses being normally 200cm in length and of slightly increased width. European mattresses are not built to UK specifications, which is why people may choose to have a bespoke bed frame made to fit their European mattress. Here at The Odd Company, we can create a bespoke bed base to fit your European mattress, and craft it perfectly to the dimensions required.
UK: 3’0” x 6’3” (90cm x 190cm)
EU: 90cm x 200cm
UK: 4’6” x 6’3” (135cm x 190cm)
EU: 140cm x 200cm
King Size Mattress
UK: 6’0” x 6’6” (150cm x 200cm)
EU: 160cm x 200cm
The extra space provided by European mattresses can be conducive to a better quality of sleep, as you have more room to move. If you share your mattress with a partner these extra cm can mean your bed feels less crowded and hot. Increasing the personal bed space you enjoy over the course of an evening has a positive impact on the quality of your sleep and how you feel the next day.
