Stairs & Landing
Begin with the bed frame, not the old mattress. Measuring the internal width and length gives you the clearest starting point, as mattresses can relax and change shape over time.

Mattresses – Mattresses are the least forgiving on tight corners, since they can’t be broken down. If your narrowest gap is close to the mattress height, ask us about the diagonal – a mattress usually clears a gap wider than its narrowest edge when tilted.
Bed Bases – Our bases are usually delivered in sections and built in the room, so it’s the size of the largest single part, not the whole base, that needs to clear your doorways and stairs. Check our product page for exact dimensions.
Headboards – For headboards, the width and height against your narrowest point matter most. Once it’s in the room, check it against your wall width and any sockets, switches or radiators it needs to clear.
Leave enough clearance in the room itself for the finished piece to sit comfortably, and for any drawers, mattress lift or headboard tilt to open fully. It’s easy to measure the route in and forget the room at the end of it.
1. Measuring the old mattress instead of the bed frame
2. Using inches and rounding up or down
3. Forgetting internal posts or rails
4. Guessing (tempting, but risky)
