The Luxury Materials Used in Odd Company Bespoke Mattresses
At The Odd Company, our bespoke mattresses are crafted with the utmost care and precision, promising an unparalleled sleeping experience.
Each of our fully sprung mattresses originates not from an automated, mechanised production line of machines but instead a wooden work bench and the careful hands of a skilled craftsman, using techniques that have been honed and perfected over generations.
We also take immense pride in our meticulous selection of materials, ensuring that each mattress embodies the epitome of comfort and quality.
Premium Mattress Materials
Below we’ll introduce you to the finest luxury materials that come together to make our Odd Company bespoke mattresses truly extraordinary.
1. Luxury Cotton
At The Odd Company, we believe in providing the utmost luxury and comfort in every aspect of our bespoke mattresses. That’s why we meticulously select the highest-quality cotton ticking to upholster our luxury mattresses, ensuring a truly lavish and comfortable finish.
Cotton, a natural fibre with a rich history in textile and clothing production, has been cherished for centuries. Its unique breathability and natural absorbency make it an ideal choice for the construction of our mattresses.
By also incorporating cotton as a mattress filling, we harness its remarkable ability to naturally wick away moisture, promoting a restful and rejuvenating sleep experience. With our cotton-upholstered mattresses, you can indulge in the perfect blend of luxury and comfort.
2. Cashmere
Cashmere, derived from the coat of the Kashmir goat, is renowned as one of the most luxurious wools in the world, making it an exceptional filling for our luxury mattresses.
The extraordinary softness and springiness of cashmere can be attributed to its fine fibres, which are half the width of sheep’s wool. This remarkable quality translates into a supremely comfortable and indulgent sleeping surface.
Cashmere possesses exceptional heat-regulating properties, functioning as a natural, silent air conditioning unit within your bed. The structure of each cashmere hair directs heat along the fibre, facilitating its release into the cooler environment. During colder conditions, cashmere’s crimp traps significant amounts of air between the fibres, creating an insulating layer that retains heat.
With cashmere as a filling, your mattress becomes a sanctuary where temperature fluctuations are effortlessly balanced, ensuring a cosy and restful night’s sleep.
3. Horsehair
Horsehair has long held a prominent position as a vital filling in the most esteemed mattresses, dating back centuries. Each strand of curled horsehair acts as a miniature spring, delivering support and elasticity to mattresses.
Today, at The Odd Company, we continue to embrace horsehair for precisely this reason. Consider it an additional layer of natural springs, working in harmony with the pocket sprung system at the core of our mattresses.
Moreover, the distinctive fluted structure of horsehair serves as a conduit, effectively channelling moisture and heat away from the body during sleep. By doing so, it replaces warm air with cooler, fresher air, ensuring a more comfortable and rejuvenating night’s rest.
4. Lamb’s Wool
Lamb’s wool is a cherished natural material that has been a cornerstone of the British economy since medieval times. Once hailed as the “jewel in the crown of the realm,” wool brings a multitude of benefits to mattresses and the overall sleeping experience.
Unlike synthetic fibres that tend to trap moisture and heat, wool’s unique structural composition excels at temperature regulation. Similar to cotton, wool is highly breathable, actively wicking away moisture and ensuring optimal comfort throughout the seasons.
Whether it’s providing warmth during the winter months or keeping you cool during the summer, wool’s exceptional properties make it an ideal filling for our most luxurious mattresses.
5. Pocketed Coil Springs
At The Odd Company, we pride ourselves on creating mattresses that are always fully sprung as we firmly believe that no other system offers comparable support and comfort for your body while you sleep.
The mattress springs we use are produced using the highest quality British steel available. With these steel springs at the heart of our luxury mattresses, you can expect nothing less than exceptional support, personalised comfort, and a truly restorative sleep experience.
When it comes to the spring system, we offer two options: the interior spring unit, also known as an open coil spring, and the modern and sophisticated pocket spring.
While both systems have their merits, the pocket spring system found in our bespoke mattresses reigns supreme when it comes to optimising support for your body’s contours.
Each 15 cm (6 inch) deep spring is housed within its own individual fabric pocket, allowing for independent movement of each spring. This unique feature enables our pocket sprung mattresses to adapt and conform to your body’s shape more effectively than interior sprung mattresses or those with foam cores.
