Not enough sleep could lead to high blood pressure
Having a good night’s sleep is vital for ensuring that you are well rested ready for the next day, but a new study has been looking into the health aspects of getting enough sleep.
Lack of deep sleep affects men’s health
Scientist in the USA have looked at impact of not getting enough sleep, and found that amongst elderly men not getting enough deep sleep makes them more at risk of developing high blood pressure.
High blood pressure increases the risk of strokes and heart attacks, and although the study only looked at men over 65 it thought that woman would face similar risks.
Professor Susan Redline from Harvard Medical School, said: “Our study shows for the first time that poor quality sleep, reflected by reduced slow wave sleep, puts individuals at significantly increased risk of developing high blood pressure.”
