Are You Struggling to Sleep?
With the demands of work and running a home it can often feel like there’s not enough hours in the day. Time is more restricted than ever and many of us want to sleep as little as possible, so we can fit everything in. What we don’t consider is how a lack of sleep affects our everyday lives from our productivity, mental sharpness, emotions and even our weight.
Although sleeping patterns vary between individuals, a healthy adult needs between 7.5 and 9 hours of sleep per night, according to the National Institute of Health. So why not try and get yourself into a good routine?
Here’s how you can start to get a better night’s sleep…
Healthy Diet
Thinking about what you’re eating and drinking throughout the day can not only help you to control your weight, but will also help you sleep at night. Caffeine based drinks such as tea, coffee, energy drinks and fizzy drinks should be avoided late at night and experts say that you shouldn’t go to bed hungry, too full, or after drinking too much. So if you’re hungry why not have a piece of fruit?
Keep to a Sleep Schedule
Burning the candle at both ends will soon catch up with you so it’s important to get into a routine and go to bed at a similar time. This will make your sleep pattern more regular meaning you will be less bad-tempered and more active.
Try to make your Bedroom feel more Relaxed
Having a laptop, mobile phone or TV on beside the bed is going to distract you from getting to sleep so switch them off to create a peaceful sleeping environment. Why not even have a hot bath after a long day to make you feel more relaxed?
Stressed about work?
If you’re feeling stressed at work and it’s affecting your sleep, why not write a list of what it is that’s bothering you, or make lists to help keep your workloads in check.
